A lesson in building a stronger Black community
By: Sandra Gabriel
From July 2007 to September 2008, I had the honour of working with Miss Georgia Greenwood, Executive Director of Canada’s first plus size women’s consumer tradeshow, The Fuller Woman Expo. When we started the project, we had big ideas, but very little resources; still, we were determined to pull it off, as well as keep our full-time jobs and juggle whatever other demands we had. We wanted the event we envisioned complete with celebrity guests like Trey Anthony, Mo’Nique, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, and Oprah Winfrey!! Although we did not see any of our celebrity guests, the event was still lively and entertaining. It had a pretty fair turn out for a first time event. I was proud of Georgia and what she had accomplished.
