The Black Business & Professional Association (BBPA) has redesigned the
volunteer program to give volunteers the opportunity to:

> Learn best practices in professionalism
> Share your expertise
> Develop and acquire new skills
> Build experience
> Broaden your network of friends and professional contacts
> Make a difference and give back to the Black community

Our objective is to guide and mentor young volunteers to be ready for the
business and professional world, but also to help current professionals
perform better in the workplace.

The program runs for 1 year with a 6-week orientation that consists of 6
phases:

Orientation
this phase is to welcome new volunteers and inform them of the program
and the process and to allow volunteers to begin to engage with one another.

Selection & Recruitment
Individuals will be selected and interviewed. Those who are successful will
be asked to attend the BBPA University.

BBPA University
it is difficult to inform and educate potential BBPA members and supporters
if the volunteer himself is not educated and informed. This session will teach
volunteers the history and background of the BBPA and include information on
all BBPA programs and events, stats & facts and processes.

Exam
Volunteers will be required to take a written exam to demonstrate their knowledge
of the BBPA. Volunteers will be notified of their grades before graduation.

Graduation
those volunteers that have passed will enter into graduation and receive their
certificate of graduation. A small cocktail reception will be held to celebrate the
graduates Assignment of projects – after graduation, volunteers will have
one-on-one’s with the volunteer committee to assess the best fit for the
volunteer at the BBPA. During this phase volunteers will be informed of their
duties and provided with the tools necessary to carry them out i.e. timers to
record hours spent on BBPA work.

Volunteer commitments are for a period of 1 year with a 3-month probation.
Volunteers are expected to participate fully in meetings and with their assigned
projects in order to successfully complete the probation period. At the end of
their 1 year term, volunteers will then be given theirVolunteer Certificate with the
option to renew their volunteer status.

Phase 1 – Orientation is scheduled to be on Wednesday, May 27th at Metro
Hall (55 John Street) at 6:30pm. Please RSVP by May 22nd to
